Jeremy Butler, in Dartmoor Atlas of Antiquities, writes: “The lowest surviving prehistoric settlements in the Erme valley are four small enclosures no more than 150 m apart around the head of Addicombe Brook, each associated with two or three huts. Enclosure A is the best preserved, its boundary wall still a metre high deflecting the course of the Red Lake Railway through a cutting around its uphill edge. A revetment, probably insisted on by R.H. Worth who surveyed the line, prevented the subsequent collapse of the boundary.

In September 2022 the Dartmoor Youth Rangers, assisted by Ranger Ella Briens, cleared this enclosure of bracken by bashing it so that it won’t grow as high next year.
