Notes: On a previous excursion I had managed to miss looking for this B.M. and so on a return trip my Dad accompanied me. We walked from Fernworthy Forest far car park and just as we were crossing Manga Rails my GPS battery gave its ‘low battery alert’ – and (typical) I had failed to recharge the other batteries. So, I legged it to the B.M. point just as the battery died. My Dad followed along and on arrival decided to let me hunt for the B.M. whilst he had his lunchtime sandwiches. The terrain was short clumpy grass with hardly any exposed rocks that might harbour the elusive B.M. I fruitless searched for over half an hour. By then Dad had finished his lunch and so he stood up, packed his gear and wandered over to a grassy clump by the track. He peeled back the grass and moss and there facing him was the B.M. I had been looking for!? (TYPICAL!!) We roared with laughter. Below is a photo of Dad proudly showing his ‘clump of grass Bench Mark’. This photo also shows how featureless and ‘clumpy’ this area is making it very tough for B.M. Searching (unless you’re Dad).
