I was delighted to find this one – and only about 10 metres away from the grid reference I had originally extracted from sidebyside, so it didn’t take long to find it. It’s rather vague and difficult to make out – especially as it is covered in lichen. I scraped a little away and could then clearly see the cut marks, especially on the wider lower ends. Clearly the surveyors like to find solid horizontal edges – and this stone is perfect. When I find things like this, especially when they are so difficult to make out, I do wonder how long ago they were last seen..
