This is how the cross looked in 2005.  It was a small cross embedded in the top of the boulder.  It has been replaced several times.  It is not certain whether it was lost due to vandalism or because it was such an attractive ‘scratching post’ for Moorland ponies and cattle and they in the process of grooming themselves dislodged or broke it off.
