Notes: The grid reference and details for this item were kindly supplied by Steve Grigg. The cross also features on the Dartmoor Crosses database under a slightly different grid reference.
According to Bill Harrison (Dartmoor Stone Crosses), there is some question whether this was originally a churchyard cross. ‘The Rev. Gray of Meavy knew it in the late 1800s as simply a post……Mason Phillips is of the opinion…. that it is doubtful if this shaft was ever part of an original churchyard cross’. Whatever the origin it has been restored as a cross and an interesting one it is. Leaning against the bank adjacent to the cross is a large slab with a hole through it that could have been a ‘bullseye’ stone. (PHB)
