Conies Down Tor

This might only be a small tor but its views really do pack a punch. Embracing almost the entire course of the Cowsic River as it meanders down towards Two Bridges, it is a memorable scene and the small outcrops here provide a stunning backdrop. It is a great place for lunch. Enjoy the solitude, but try not to focus too hard on your car parked at Holming Beam!

‘Coney’ is an old name for rabbit so one would assume that there was once a rabbit warren here, yet there is no evidence for that. The nearest warren to here is at Beardown Farm to the south.

Conies Down Stone Row

Notes: A double stone row that is quite hard to trace in places. It runs N to S to the south-west of Conies Down Tor, just above the Lych Way or ‘Way of the Dead’.
