The ‘Tinners’ Mills’ of Dartmoor were for crushing (Stamping / Knocking) and some for Smelting (Blowing) of tin and some had a dual use. This classification uses the generic name 'Tinners’ Mill' to apply to any aspect of tin ‘processing’ that took place in a small ruinous hut on the moors. Other names for this processing hut include Blowing House, Stamping Mill, Tin Mill, Smelting House and Smelting Mill.
