Moor Gates and Well Known Gates

Dartefacts displays only the most important well-known or named gates on Dartmoor. Quite often, these gates were/are of massive importance to the farming community, but also to walkers looking to explore ways to access certain enclosed areas of moorland, woodland or pasture. Some gates were deemed so significant that they had names attached, such as 'Abbot's Gate'. 'Moor Gates' are those which provide access onto the moorland - either from adjacent moorland or from off the moor.
