Notes: A spur that forms a sort of rounded island hill between the Gallaven Brook Leat and the Wallabrook. With marshy ground surrounding it to the west, south and east and only being accessible via the nearby footbridge to the north there is a pleasant ‘isolated’ and ‘protected’ feel to this place. So I nicknamed it “Gidleigh Common Castle”. There are also a number of boulder clusters, uprights and other stones scattered around here that must be the remains of a wizard’s tower. Or possibly natural.

Acknowledgements: Emma Cunis (Dartmoor’s Daughter, Dartmoor Guide) has kindly provided the real name ‘Brown Hill’ for this feature.
