This is most certainly related to the hydro-electric power generated from the steep drop of the Sheepstor Brook over Burrator Waterfall. There is a pipe buried (and in parts broken) here in the woodland floor, with a weir at Sheepstor Brook Foot on the River Meavy.

Yeo Wood is the old name for the woodland that many today refer to as Burrator Wood.
