Notes: The name of this hill is a contentious one, Stats House Hill being a name used in Eric Hemery’s book ‘High Dartmoor’ where he also mentions both Winney’s Down and Maish Hill, the latter being a corruption of ‘marsh’. Stats House Hill appears to be associated with the whole hill and the summit where Stats House is whereas, it seems, Maish Hill is a name used to describe the east flank of the hill. Winney’s Down appears to be used to describe the whole plateau.
