On the UK Trig Pillars and Bench Marks FB Group, Max Piper writes: “On Saturday I also visited this special place, known as The Beacon (Shaldon), a very boring name I know, and not the first hill with this name that I have bagged. That said, its views are among the finest that I have seen so close to home, embracing almost all of the Teign Estuary and beyond to Haldon in the north, Dartmoor in the west, the rest of South Devon in the south and the sea to the east. Using my camera, I took some zoomed photos of landmarks that I could recognise, and I was completely shocked where I could actually see Yes Tor, a distance of 25 miles away.

I stood atop the trig, so close to a road yet so detached from everything else, admiring the views out towards the cruise liners in Babbacombe Bay. It was a special moment.”
