Little Down Tor

Rob Naylor writes: SX 57575 69366? This one has been a bit confusing as there are a few blocks, rocks and very minor ‘stacks’ kicking around this area. Ringwood suggests it is two ‘tor’ rocks with a G.R. of SX 5765 6938 which is very close to the sidebyside aerial photo estimate I am using. Back I go again..

I believe this is also named ‘Deancombe Rocks’ – according to Walk 1, Waypoint 7, pg11, ‘Walk Dartmoor/ 35 Easy Walks/ Bartholomew Map and Guide‘ by Peter Tavy.

Middleworth Barn (232 m)

Exploring Around Burrator – A Dartmoor Reservoir‘ (2023) by Paul Rendell explains that: “The earliest known reference to this farm seems to be in 1281 when it was called ‘Middelesworthi’… By 1919 Middleworth was abandoned. All that remains today are the ruins of the farmhouse and the large granite barn with the date stone on.” The building of Burrator Reservoir disturbed a lot of farms in the area which led to some of them eventually becoming abandoned.
