Maish Hill

This name is used only to refer to the eastern shoulder of Stats House Hill, overlooking Maish Hill Brook. There is no summit as such, but the brook itself, which is crossed on the path from Sittaford Tor, is deep!

‘Maish’ is a corruption of Marsh.

Winney’s Down

This name refers to the southern elongated slope of Stats House Hill extending towards the East Dart. However, the Ordnance Survey continues to label the summit as ‘Winney’s Down’, but this is incorrect, as Hemery explains.
