Mortar Stone, Double, near Manga Farm

Acknowledgement: Steve Grigg of Dartmoor Explorations on Facebook (RJN).

Notes: Although this item has been listed as a double mortar stone there are a number of clues that suggest it is something else. First there is no Stamping Mill immediately hereabouts and secondly it has a triangular shaped base and not the usual flat bottom, so if it were being used in a stamping mill it would have had to be supported somehow. I feel it is actually just a natural river stone with two ‘scoured’ basins caused by weathering (RJN with information derived from Steve Grigg, Dartmoor Explorations).
