Bridle Gate, Gawler Brook Clapper
Postbridge B3212 P M Stone
Notes: A guide stone we presume for Postbridge and Moretonhampstead, situated on – and perhaps predating – the old Turnpike (present B3212). Set in the wall on the edge of Bellever Forest, this gatepost-type stone is inscribed P and M on opposite sides.
Acknowledgement: Photographed by Tim Jenkinson in 2014, he thanks Dave and Kath Brewer for helping with the location; also Mark Fenlon.
Postbridge Visitor Centre ’75 Years’ Inscribed Stone
“75 YEARS / NATIONAL PARKS AND ACCESS / TO THE COUNTRYSIDE ACT 1949”
At Postbridge Visitor Centre on 5th May 2024 a new stone in the picnic area was unveiled by Dartmoor National Park Authority. It celebrates 75 years since the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act was passed in 1949. This is crucial legislation that led to the first National Parks in the country being designated in 1951, securing the public interest in promoting recreation and protecting their unique living, working landscapes.
This piece of art was created in a very short period of time (c. 2 weeks!) by DNPA Stonemason Andy Cribbett. It looks fabulous.
