Possible Tiny Millstone below Holwell Tor

Visited on Friday 12th April 2024.

I came across this tiny rock. It looks to have been worked and has a small circular indentation on top, rather like a millstone… but it is tiny! MP

Holwell ‘Toe’ Tor

This northernmost and lowest outcrop of Holwell Tor sticks out above the gentle plain below like a massive toe! Above it is the tramway, Holwell Tor Quarry and beehive hut. It is worth a visit.

The name is totally made up and was first suggested by Tim Jenkinson.

Open-Fronted Structure, Holwell Tor Quarry

Notes: From Steve Grigg: “This open-fronted structure inside the quarry is conjectured to have been associated with the working of stone, possibly stone dressing. Alternatively is may have been a workshop for servicing machinery and tools.
