Notes: A controversial inclusion to this classification section but there are many solitary upright stones on Dartmoor. It could be argued that it is extremely unlikely that they have maintained their upright position through milennia without human intervention. Many off these 'uprights' have a distinctive 'pointy' appearance which further suggests they are 'set' rather than natural in their positioning. None of these uprights have been identified as belonging to known boundaries but they could be prehistoric, medieval or even forgotten 'modern' boundary or guide stones. I have now added the parish boundaries GPX and it appears that a couple of these unknown stones lie along parish boundaries..
