Heidi’s Stone

Notes: There was once a stone with a block cemented in place here.  It had the words ‘Heidi’s Cross’ and had a small cross carved into it. I understand that this item no longer exists. I have not been out to find this stone yet so the grid reference is a total guesstimate but it is supposed to be about 50 paces north of Crazywell Cross. This item has been classified as a memorial item.

Acknowledgement(s): Many thanks to Graham Hart for bringing this item to the attention of Dartefacts. Graham’s photo of this item to be added.

MERRIVALE FIRING RANGE DANGER AREA

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION: The red GPX lines that have been provided to indicate the firing range boundaries are based on the Ordnance Survey Map and not on range marker post locations. Use the information provided here as a general guide only. Both the OS map and the created GPX lines will contain inaccuracies and the correct source for Dartmoor Firing Range information is here: MOD Firing Range Times & MOD Firing Range Map. The DNPA Visitor Centres also provide daily firing information.

Footbridge near Holming Beam

Notes: Not yet visited but taken from map. It may not exist or if it does the current classification might not be correct.

Ted Davey Plaque 1

Notes: Horseyeatt. On the east side of the disused railway, just before the bridge that passes over the footpath that leads to Gipsy Rock from the B3212.
It reads:
1 “The View of A Lifetime” /
When one follows a path through the wilderness that is living. /
And it seems set along a course so apparent of pre-set destiny.
It has been suggested that the missing plaque (No.3) was attached to a wooden gate, or fence, that has since been replaced.
