Yes Tor Tethering Rings

Notes: Max Piper ‘spotted’ this tethering ring whilst admiring the misty view from the trig point, however, these photos are from later visits in 2020 and 2022 respectively. It sits above a range hut trying to ‘blend’ into the tor. There is another one below the trig point at SX 58085 90150.

Fishcombe or Fish Combe

Notes: This beautiful combe is surely evidence of glaciation on Dartmoor; after all, it’s one of the moor’s deepest valleys which is just a stone’s throw from Corn Hole and the West Okement Valley, both of which have been studied by professionals to confirm Dartmoor’s glaciated past. Even Eric Hemery, in High Dartmoor, says that the scene resembles a small glacial moraine.

Red-a-ven Quarry

Reference: Nicknamed as ‘Red-a-ven Quarry’ for want of a name to identify this quarry, Colin Yelland on Dartmoor 1044 Facebook comments; “…this one is also called Meldon Quarry as well as the main one! It was operated by ECC Quarries Ltd and closed in about 1972. Part was leased from Okehampton Hamlets PC and part was owned by ECC. ECC gave OHPC the land they owned when the quarry closed so all now owned by OHPC.”
