Millstone above Leat Take-off Point (Not Located)

Description: Badly misshapen and almost overcome with vegetation.

Reference: Tim Jenkinson: Dartmoor Magazine Issue 62 Spring 2001: Abandoned Stone Artefacts of Wacka Tor and Red Brook.

Notes: Visited the area briefly but failed to locate on that trip. I didn’t have GPS so it was a memory test! However, it was a pretty thorough survey of the most obvious rocks around the river bend there and I failed to find it.. so I think this one may be a bit tricky!

Red Brook Ford Rock Pair (362 m)

Across Dartmoor there are various locations where two rocks appear to have been ‘paired’ together. Of course this could be a natural coincidence and there is nothing to be found to say that it was prehistoric people who set these stones in place..

Henchertraw, The

Thanks to Neil Armstrong for bringing this one to my attention – and the name ‘HencherClaw’! Thanks as well to Anthony Francis-Jones for ‘The Lion’s Claw’ name and initial 8-fig grid reference.

This is where the Red Brook tumbles down through a trough or ‘traw’ and a lovely ‘cascade’ of small streams makes a claw-like pattern.

Unfortunately on the day of my visit the GPS was playing up and so I have to return at a later date to accurate ‘fix’ this location. Oh well, it’s a tough job but someone has to do it!
