Acknowledgement: Many thanks to Steve Grigg for drawing Dartefacts’ attention to the Tavistock ‘T’ stones, and to Johnie Stickland for in turn drawing Steve’s attention to these unique markers. They are forerunners to Ordnance Survey (OS) benchmarks which were placed all over towns in Great Britain. They do not, as one might expect, denote ‘Tavistock’. The ‘T’ stones resemble incomplete benchmarks because they do not have arms or wings. They have, however, been classified as benchmarks on Dartefacts for ease of searching.
