Notes: This stone possibly reads as ‘Lower Down or Yarner Down’ but the ‘or’ could also be read as ‘of’, however, as Dave Brewer (2002, p.245) in ‘Dartmoor Boundary Markers’, tells us “…on one of them is written ‘Lower Down of Yarner Down’. Once upon a time the whole will have been referred to as Yarner Down, then the piece below the railway as ‘Lower Down’. It was just rough grazing when we first came here. This farm was once part of the Yarner Estate and when it was split up some of the rights were sold off separately.”
