Notes, Description and Reference: The grid reference and details for this item were kindly supplied by Peter Freeman on the DARTMOOR 365 Facebook Group, stating: “I wait to stand corrected, as I can’t find any historical detail on this, but it’s a tiny hut, roughly built of slate blocks at the southern end of what was once the Walkham Viaduct on the GWR (Great Western Railway). It’s tiny, barely big enough for two, and right on the edge of a steep slope, yet it has a fireplace with a bar across it, which as Ruth Massam pointed out looks as if it’s intended to support a kettle or pot above the fire. So surely this is what’s left of the hut where the railway workers used to brew up?”
This is not too far from the Walkham United Mine so perhaps they’re linked?
