Ventiford Basin is not named on the OS map. However, it is a historic junction between the Haytor Granite Tramway and Stover Canal. Granite was transported on horse-drawn trolleys from Haytor and Holwell quarries. When it reached Ventiford Basin it was transferred to barges that were sailed up the canal via three locks to Jetty Marsh in Newton Abbot. At this point, the barges left the canal and entered the Teign estuary. They sailed up the Teign to Teignmouth, where they were transferred to coasters. The canal is under the care of the Stover Canal Trust. (See LINK)
