First named by Brian Carter but properly described in Dartmoor Magazine by Tim Jenkinson, the tor, bisected by a wall, resides on Coombe Down and has some rock basins on top. A local name, used in the Barramoor Valley by some, is ‘Toad Rocks’.

Max Piper also described the tor, with a colour photograph, in his book ‘East Dartmoor’s Lesser-Known Tors and Rocks‘.
