Notes: This was the only benchmark I could find today, and it’s a good thing I was looking in the right place else this wouldn’t have been found. I arrived at the NGR that I obtained from Side by Side to find a very mossy wall. The benchmark was located at the junction of two walls and the only area not covered in moss was a small patch to the left of an access gate. I examined this part of the wall noting an indentation that I wanted to investigate further. Now, I do not like pulling back/removing moss from rocks unless it is a last resort, and I would only pull back a little bit first to see if this ‘indentation’ was just my imagination.

It wasn’t, though, because I saw another cut and then a third. I had found this benchmark with little difficulty – just pure luck. I personally think it is sad to see a part of our history being consumed by nature and human development, the latter a greater issue, but I am confident that the moss will soon take control again as it once did after the B.M. was inscribed.
