It is possible that ‘CW’ denotes ‘Criptor Waste’, but Paul Rendell is convinced that it actually stands for ‘clay works’. He wrote an article in Dartmoor Magazine Issue 20 Autum 1990 pp.26-28 about the clay works. (MP comment, September 2022)
