Notes: In Dartmoor 365, John Hayward writes: “The wing of the house facing the road is the original medieaval cottage. This consisted on the ground floor of just two rooms separated by a cross passage. This type of home developed from the longhouse, always built on a slight slope, in which the quarters on the lower side of the passage were for animals, and the rest of the house was for humans.”
