Sharpitor, one of East Dartmoor’s finest tors, stands at the end of the high ridge of Lustleigh Cleave. Totally cloaked by trees, it is an enigmatic tor with several magnificent towers of rock and, if you’re lucky, a partial view through the canopy towards Trendlebere Down. The tor is (was) the site of the Nutcracker Logan Stone, which was allegedly toppled by vandals on 6th May 1950. The stone, so-called because it could crack nuts, may still be in place, as some speculate that it was actually the Christening Stone that fell, which was sometimes confused for the Nutcracker.

There were efforts and attempts to put the stone, or perhaps a replica, back in place but these all failed.
