This is a fine tor of two main piles; please read its full description on Tors of Dartmoor to understand this location since Holwell Rocks is a tor that has been misplaced in the past.
Fortunately its inclusion on OS Maps for 2024 will clarify the exact and correct location.

Jenkinson, T. (2023): Dartmoor Magazine, Issue 152, Winter: Dartmoor Discovered: The Tale of Holwell Rocks, pp.18-20.
Tim Jenkinson writes: “A possible boundary stone near Hound Tor on South Dartmoor roughly half way between Swallerton Gate and Harefoot Cross first described by Dave Brewer and inscribed ‘BI 1688’.” The Featured Image shows Tim using the Dave Brewer technique (mud painting) to make sense of the strange text. I think this view is actually the wrong way around. (MP)
Above info taken from Tim Jenkinson (Flickr) – I’m experimenting with attempting to embed links etc.!! If there is an issue with this it won’t be here for long.. once visited this will be replaced with my own data :o) (RJN)
This is an incredible rockpile and one of the most accessible, with not one but three car parks to choose from close by. There are extraordinary views all around, especially down to the village of Widecombe in the Moor (The Cathedral of the Moor!).
