Notes: As Dave Brewer (2002) explains, “Ashburton is said to have erected seven stones set at a distance of ‘1 Mile’ from the ‘Extreme parts of the town’ to define the limits to which the prisoners were permitted to walk or ride, but the roads so marked were far from being turnpiked roads in all cases… One also exists on Druids Hill near the entrance to Druid Cottage, sited a mile from Great Bridge…“
