This is a tricky one to assess as, if I’m completely honest (and yes, I know you’ve lost trust in me), I hadn’t a clue. There are, either side of the Featured Image, gateposts that were checked over but the NGR seemed pretty insistent that it was in the middle. The description says ‘Stone’ so it had to be beside the wall then, right?
AH! As I add this to my collection of ‘Not Located B.M.s’, I think I can actually see the benchmark on the left-hand rock, the rounded one where it looks like a broad arrow. The light was poor and I was needing a drink so it’s not just my poor eyesight hopefully! I have marked it as ‘Located’ but if anyone visits please do confirm by contacting Max Piper. Lesson learnt – trust your NGRs more!
Sarah Clough writes: “I looked all over the rocks in your photo but I could not find a bench mark. I didn’t look anywhere else, only on those rocks, as while I was out there I mis-read your comments, thinking you’d found it on the stone, only now did I read your last sentence. Although, like you, now I’m home, I think I can see it in the photos!”
