The majority of military activity takes place on the North Moor - across the three live firing ranges - but there are other military buildings and Observation Posts elsewhere on Dartmoor, especially around Butterdon Hill above Harford. This classification aims to document all of those known on Dartmoor, and this endeavour has been greatly facilitated by John Deakins' book 'Dartmoor Observation Posts', with help from Dartmoor Guide Paul Rendell and (retired) Lt. Col. Tony Clark OBE.
