Incredible. If you compare different versions of Google Street View, you will notice that the right-hand side of this building used to be plastered in white, which is probably why a subsequent OS surveyor failed to locate it and hence why the cut mark never made it onto the OS Benchmark Archive. I always try to record those on old maps that may not exist anyway just to ponder at their existence in the hope that someday they will be revealed again – and that is exactly what we have here. Recently, it would seem that the exterior of the house was stripped and, amazingly, the benchmark survives and has been re-exposed.
