We learn from Butler that: “At the head of the Green lies Half Moon, formerly an inn and, at the time of writing, the object of much speculation as to its future. Thought originally to have been a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century it is probably true to say that it is the most photographed, drawn and painted of any of Manaton’s attractive features.”

Landlord James Harvey decided to move the pub out of Manaton and convert his own private residence in Water, becoming the Kestor Hotel and then Inn, which opened in the early 1900s.
