This classification includes all of the hills that are named on the current Ordnance Survey Maps, OL28 Dartmoor, OL44 Torquay & Dawlish and Explorer 108 Lower Tamar Valley & Plymouth. 'Hills' on Dartefacts also incorporates Balls and Beacons: a 'Ball' is the Dartmoor term for a rounded hill, a 'Beacon' may have been the location of signal fires and so these are usually found on the edge of the high moor.
