This was the former ladies’ club, situated on Barrack Road and close to the prison. It was built sometime in 1806-09 as part of No.1 barrack block, when it became a reading room or library for the prison officers after the convict prison opened. Prior to the relinquishing of the lease in the 1980s, the building became the prison officers ladies’ club, and is now a private dwelling that is falling into a bad state.
