This is one of two marker stones that denote Whitehorse Hill Cut Peat Pass, the most notable on the moor perhaps due to its depth in the peat and almost stony passage through. The western marker stone, having previously been lost, was replaced with a replica in 1988.

Sadly, as of 2022, the commemorative plaque for the new marker stone had been removed.
