‘Royal Oak’ comes from Tim Sandles’ Gazetteer and other publications. This is perhaps the best-known of the Dartmoor quarries as it is absolutely massive (by Dartmoor standards). Unlike at the well-known Haytor Quarry this granite quarry still contains many building remains in the form of: Eva’s Farm, Hill Cottages, Manager’s House and Gibbs Cottage to name a few.
